Ali Farzad is an Emergency Physician who believes the ECG is the best test in acute care medicine. He practices at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX, where he serves as Core Faculty for the Emergency Medicine Residency and Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine. He trained at the University of Maryland, completing both residency and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Emergencies under the mentorship of Dr. Mattu.
Dr. Farzad is an editor and consultant for ECGWeekly, where he creates focused written summaries to help learners retain key concepts and apply them in real clinical settings. He is also the creator of ECG STAT, a point-of-care web app offering essential ECG criteria and pearls, and ECG Skills, a practical assessment tool designed to test real-world ECG triage decisions.
His mission is to spread this life-saving ECG education as far and wide as possible, helping acute care providers recognize critical diagnoses and make faster, smarter decisions.
Outside of medicine, Ali is a devoted husband and proud father of two daughter. He is a firm believer that everyone should learn to love ECGs at least half as much as he does. He welcomes feedback, collaboration, and your best ECG cases.
AMAL MATTU, MD

Amal Mattu is a Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, Director of the Faculty Development Fellowship, and Co-Director of the Emergency Cardiology Fellowship. He is the creator and host of ECGWeekly, trusted by clinicians around the world.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Mattu has been passionately teaching and writing about emergency cardiology and ECG interpretation. His dedication has earned him over 20 teaching awards, including the ACEP Outstanding Contributions to Education Award, the AAEM Joe Lex Educator of the Year, and the Maryland Emergency Physician of the Year. He is a best-selling author of several ECG textbooks, and the only emergency physician to serve twice as guest editor of Cardiology Clinics. He has also delivered over 3,000 hours of CME lectures at national and international conferences.
Dr. Mattu is known for his ability to take complex ECG concepts and turn them into practical, high-yield insights that clinicians can apply immediately. His mission is to make ECG education accessible, engaging, and impactful because he believes that mastering ECGs is one of the most powerful ways to save lives in emergency care.
Outside of medicine, Amal is a devoted husband and father to three children, affectionately referred to as "NikEleKam" by long-time followers of ECGWeekly. He enjoys connecting with colleagues over interesting ECG cases and always welcomes comments, questions, or debates from the community.
ROB BLANKENSHIP, MD

Rob Blankenship is an Emergency Physician and administrative leader with a strong background in military and civilian emergency medicine. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, TX, and has served as an emergency department medical director.
Dr. Blankenship is passionate about ultrasound, having taught point-of-care ultrasound internationally and online at EMsono.com for over a decade. He developed the Army’s first Tactical Ultrasound Course in 2007, drawing on his experience in Iraq, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service with the 1-66 Armor, 4th Infantry Division.
As the founder and CEO of ECGWeekly, Dr. Blankenship ensures the platform operates smoothly for both the educational team and its users. His role as an IT guru and educator is pivotal in delivering high-quality ECG education to healthcare providers.
In his free time, Rob enjoys family activities, watching his kids' sporting events, teaching ultrasound to non-traditional users, and participating in international mission trips. He welcomes inquiries about ECGWeekly and is eager to assist with any questions.
